Abere Adamu fired as Head of Amhara Police Commissioner

Addis Ababa, April 26, 2021 – (EthioHeadlines) –Mr. Abere Adamu, the head of Amhara Police Force, implicated in many recent massacres in Tigray, Benishangul-Gumuz zone, and Wollo Oromo special zone, in Amhara regional state, has been removed from his post. Mr. Adamu is a Sweden citizen and Amhara.

Many critics consider the decision, by the Amhara regional State, to remove him as an admission of guilt that Amhara special forces are involved in the recent crises that resulted in the death of hundreds of people in Shoa Robit, Wollo, and Benishangul-Gumu where citizens were mercilessly attacked, killed, and made homeless by the burning of their homes, shops, and crops.

Some Amhara activists in the diaspora fear that their efforts to blame the victims as perpetrators for the ongoing ethnic conflicts is made difficult by his removal. Others believe that he is used as a sacrificial lamb by Abiy Ahmed and Amhara Regional State leaders to quell inquiries of ethnic cleansing in Tigray in which he might implicate them. They compare his removal to the killing of General Asamnew Tsige – the person responsible for the assassinations of senior Amhara State leaders in June 2019.

It is to be recalled that it was Abere Adamu as Chief Commissioner of the Amhara Regional State Police Commission who revealed how his “police force guided federal steel-clad mechanized forces to join “war” in Tigray

Like the controversial statements and policies of General Tisge, Abere’s inflammatory statements and misguided policies are to blame for the multifaceted war the Amhara Special Forces are engaged in with minority groups in the Amhara State, all neighboring states including Benishangul-Gumuz, Oromia, and Tigray and for the loss of countless lives.
